Cold Brew is Heating Things Up

Cold brew coffee offers qualities that make this trend too hard to ignore.

When it comes to coffee, it’s out with the old and in with the cold. This means swapping iced coffee with cold brew. What’s the difference between the two? Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coffee in cold water for an extended period of time, whereas iced coffee is made by pouring hot coffee over ice.

Cold brew is making its mark in restaurants, foodservice operations, and grocery stores across the country, getting recognized for its smooth, creamy, chocolatey texture and low acidity.

Going beyond the beverage, a number of popular brands have recently launched cold brew products, including cold brew coffee ice cream and chocolate bars. Flavoring cold brew with hazelnut and lavender is also slated to make an impact on foodservice in the coming year.

  • Because cold brew is easy to prepare in bulk and can be consumed at any time of day, it’s an excellent beverage to keep chilled and serve to guests who are checking in.
  • Popular coffee providers, like entegra’s supply partner Starbucks, now offer bottled cold brew beverages. Consider adding these to your coolers or in-house C-store so guests can enjoy cold brew at their leisure.
