Food Deliver: Consider the Non-Restaurant

Food delivery services have made their mark on the dining scene and continue to grow in popularity as customers’ need for convenience escalates.

While most brick and mortar restaurants look for ways to add delivery to their offer, there is now an emerging trend of non-restaurant operations created solely with delivery in mind. The menu, packaging, infrastructure and technology are all selected to facilitate delivering food.

One New York City non-restaurant even brags about how well they leverage their location by trading a pricey store front for more kitchen space. They’ve also created an intuitive app that contributes to a seamless ordering experience for customers. Non-restaurants put a lot of effort into hiring and training their delivery drivers, as they are the only contact their customers have with the business, and many promise the food will arrive in less than 30 minutes.

IDEAS FOR TRADITIONAL OPERATORS:

• Make delivery a convenience option, whether it be via a food delivery service or by your own design.

• Create a special delivery menu featuring items that travel well.

• Upgrade your take out packaging to ensure a quality dining experience.
