Paying a Higher Premium for Healthy Snacks

Today's consumers are willing to shell out more for quality options.

Higher price? No problem! When it comes to refueling throughout the day, research from Nielsen suggests that nearly one-third of Gen Z is currently willing to pay a higher premium for healthy snacks, which the generation identifies as those with high-quality, sustainably sourced ingredients. It’s expected that Gen Z will also be pushing for more plant-based, high-protein snacks in the years to come, as they continue to marry their love for better-for-you (BFY) snacks with their interest in preserving the well-being of our planet. Healthier snacks that younger generations are gravitating toward include high-protein ice cream, chickpea puffs, light popcorn, granola bars and yogurts.

OPERATOR IDEAS:

Theme snack boxes for your à la carte station that students can enjoy at lunchtime. For example, a “Power Up Protein” box might include mixed nuts and assorted crackers, celery or apples with peanut butter dip, a hard-boiled egg and assorted fruit.

Don’t hesitate to offer new varieties of snacks in your cafeteria. Entegra’s supplier partners provide a vast array of on-trend, prepackaged options that will appeal to students, ranging from high-protein breakfast biscuits and granola bars to light chips and cracker crisps.

Showcase your healthy offerings to the local community, students, and parents by holding a movie night at your school after hours. Serve light popcorn or other premium snacks that you have available for students during the day.
