Say Hello to “Skip-Gen” Trips
Families are partaking in more “skip-gen” trips, meaning that grandparents and their grandchildren are now traveling together more often and leaving parents at home to enjoy their own “staycations.” Doing so allows families to reconnect on a different level. Road Scholar, a non-profit organization that plans educational travel tours, has also deemed 2018 the “Year of the Grandparent” due to the current popularity of multigenerational adventures.
Regional Favorites & Over-the-Top Options
Over-the-top creations are currently setting leisure destinations apart from their competition. From burgers piled high with slaw or beer cheese to innovative ice cream cones that wow guests, leisure destinations need to think big and serve bigger. It’s the perfect time to offer “twisted classics” that position the most beloved regional fare as a cut above the rest. Nearly two-thirds of consumers want the local favorite dishes at leisure destinations.
Trust Us: Authenticity is Essential
Transparency and trust are now crucial to all levels of the leisure experience, from foodservice operations to online reviews. In addition to consumers wanting to know where their food came from, what’s in it and how it was produced, more travelers are seeking authenticity online. Approximately nine out of ten travelers find reading online reviews imperative, yet less than 50% believe what they see on an operator’s own site. Millennials are even more skeptical, with over 84% not trusting traditional advertising methods.
