First, we contacted our local and direct partners to rent trucks and then organized the use of temporary labor to transfer the cargo. While transportation was initially stalled, new processes were put in place and the freight was delivered.

The changing complexities also meant deviating from contracted spending. We quickly recognized that our clients needed to move to the exclusive use of regional suppliers temporarily. Priorities also included reducing inventory and redesigning menus; quantities rapidly dropped as they served 90% fewer people.

Q. How successful was the new plan and how long did it remain in place?

DM: We quickly resolved the issues and limited the business impact by stabilizing performance for 30 days. The client saw significant value, noting they “couldn’t have done it without our help.”
